Synopsis

It seems that respect for holidays has diminished. I find it frustrating when family members decline dinner invitations for what seem like minor reasons, such as health discomforts or personal appointments. It feels as though they don’t appreciate the advantages they have.

For instance, my stepdaughter is frequently preoccupied with her phone, even during unconventional interactions with her stepbrother. They benefit from being part of a family that permits considerable personal liberties.

Despite the freedom regarding personal relationships and intimate activities, I sense a lack of gratitude. Few other environments would tolerate such specific and unusual personal expressions. All I desire in return is some peace and quiet. Is that an excessive expectation?
